I just wanted to let you know that we have two true bilateral adrenalectomized ferrets... both female... both around 4-5 years of age. One had the surgery nearly 11 months ago, and the other had hers back in December 2002. The first female struggled with eating and drinking for about 7 months. She had to be weaned off the prednisone over the course of 6 of those months. The second female had no problems recovering from surgery went through the pred weaning as per recommended (one week quarter tablet twice daily, one week quarter tablet once daily, 5 doses quarter tablet until completed) and is subsequently doing very well with no signs of any issues. Both are eating and drinking. The first one remains thin but plays and runs about like a normal ferret. All of her hair has finally grown in with one patch near the base of the tail that is the last to come in. The second female is back to a full coat, head to toe. She is a heavier looking ferret... not fat or overweight.

Neither has had what has been deemed to be an Addison's type crash although I always check on both of them throughout the day. Neither is on any other medications since being weaned off the pred.
