Proglycem definitely has the possibility of more apparent side effects and it doesn't seem to work for all ferrets. Perhaps there's some worry of the long term effects of pred usage? Ferrets are pretty tolerant. I've had ferrets on pred for years with only fluid retention being a problem.

However, your friend is probably going to have to bring her vet some hard facts and "official" articles on the topic and not just anecdotal info from us ferret lovers.
