I apologize for being short on time, but I did recall that Dr. Bruce Williams had put up past posts on the typical lack of side effects to Pred by ferrets. Here are soem which seem to give the info you will need:

I don't have time right now to look up other vets' replies on this score or to look up Proglycem but if Mike has hit the nail on the head for the vet's concerns (and his supposition makes sense to me as a possible cause) then these should work for you, Uli.
