If you are talking about pancreatic tumors, they can often be very small, and not even visible to the naked eye. In these cases, a partial pancreatectomy is probably the best route to go. I don't think x-rays are a very good tool for diagnosing insulinoma. Symptoms and blood glucose levels should tell you all you need to know.
