Subject: Enlarged Spleen or Lymphosarcoma Question

Thursday, our 4 to 4? year old ferret Wiley, went in and had several
biopsies
done to rule out the possibility of Lymphosarcoma. He has an enlarged
spleen.
My question is, what if the biopsy from the spleen comes back positive
for
Lymphosarcoma, but the bone marrow biopsy is negative?
Would it be best to remove the spleen in hopes of stopping the
Lymphosarcoma,
or just leave it alone to spread to the other organs?
Wiley weighs about 2 pounds and is in very good health except for the
spleen
and cataracts, to our knowledge. He is a rescue.
My vet, Dr. X is looking for answers as to the likelihood
of it spreading to other organs before we get the results back. Does
Lymphosarcoma spread quickly, or does it take months to metastasize
to the
other healthy organs?
[Moderator's note: it was hard to edit this to fit the rules; if vets here who
can consult on this case read this (given that some are always away
from internet access), please, contact the poster directly to arrange that.
I had to remove a paragraph here.]
Dr. Bruce, I printed off your paper I found on the VIN site yesterday about
Lymphosarcoma, and took it to my vet. I'm hoping it will help him save
Wiley's life and act quickly.
Thanks and I look forward from hearing soon.
Sincerely,
Mare
