We have done that to help ferrets, too, but we haven't had leg injuries so hadn't thought of that.

We had one who threw a clot to his brain (thombosis caused by kidney disease in his case rather than the usual cardiomyopathy) and when he regained consciousness he had impairment of one leg. Bathtub swimming helped him a lot. Later we "walked" him in the bath with the water helping to support him and walked him in a pantyhose sling. Although his kidney condition was terminal he did recover very well with only slight weakness in that leg and with part of it lacking sensory aspects. He coped very well with that minor impairment.
