ECE is a GI tract thing and does not cause coughing or sneezing.
Have these ferrets been exposed to influenza? I realize that would not respond to antibiotics but there could be a secondary infection that would, or the infection may be resolving itself coinicdentally within the same time frame.
Ferrets with ECE get secondary infections, too, at times because they get so run down. We've been there.
