I have a little guy,Dewey, maybe 2 yrs of age. Having some problems with him. At the start He had been lethargic, peeing tons, not eating well. Here is a copy of what has transpired since I took him to the vet.

2 year old nm ferret presented 2/21/03 for inappetance, lethargy, no vomiting/diarrhea, urinating a lot.
wt 1.5#, T 101.4
PE - splenomegaly, generalized
CBC - platelet count 138,000 [297,000-730,000]
anemia - WBC level and Hct not found in history
Chem panel - BUN 46.8 [10.0-45.0], CREA 1.32 [0.40-0.90],
PHOS 12.0 [4.80-8.90], TP 9.03 [5.20-7.30], GLOB 6.31 [1.80-3.10], rest of values WNL
Started on pred 2.5 mg BID, amoxi and ferravite, also on ferret soup

4/18/03 - in for recheck - been doing better, but bites at abdomen when out to play. Good energy level, appetite ok, H20 consumption good, not excessive
PE - color a little pale, mild tartar, H/L ok, ABD - very firm mass in area of spleen - not just feeling enlarged - sharp edges of spleen are not there - feels like mass in spleen. No evidence of bruising anywhere.
CBC - HCT 27.9% [46-57], WBC 3,100 [5600-17,700], platelets 38,000 [297,000-730,000] retic 1.4% [1-12]
CHEM panel - ALB 2.44 [2.60-3.80], ALT 66 [82-289], CREA 1.50 [0.40-0.90], BUN 35.8 [10.0-45.0], PHOS 4.7 [4.80-8.90], TP 8.01 [5.20-7.30], GLOB 5.57 [1.80-3.10]
electrolytes WNL

Concerned about mass in spleen, anemia and thrombocytopenia. Blood loss vs non production in bone marrow

Increased pred dose to 5 mg BID. Recheck CBC in 1 week

Any input as to what we could be looking at would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You
Terry McLaren
