I hate to say it, but ferrets can get VERY depressed at the loss of a mate...to the point where they can die. They just seem to lose the will to live. If all your love and care aren't doing it and your vet says there are no physical problems I would consider doing two things.

First I'd really consider going to your closest shelter and letting Onion pick out a new buddy. This is usually the best solution.

If this is not possible then I would consider talking to your vet about putting him on Prozac. No, not kidding. Ferrets can take Prozac, and I can't guarantee it would help the depression but if it was my ferret I would consider it.

I'm not trying to scare you, but this can really be a serious problem in closely bonded ferrets when one dies. Good luck!
