For ulcers, Pepto Bismol (1ml. liquid 2x day) is what my vet
prescribed as a stomach protectant (Pepcid didn't help my guy
either). But ferrets HATE Pepto Bismol. I have pink spots all over my
wall from giving Pepto to an angry, mouth-frothing, head-shaking
ferret. I've heard 1/15 of a tablet Pepto recommended as easier to
administer (if you're good at the finger-down-the-throat trick), but
I'm not sure how you'd cut a Pepto tablet into 15 equal pieces.
Carafate is a prescription ulcer medication that is supposed to work
great, and not upset them as much as Pepto. I never had the chance to
try it on my own boy, but ask your vet if s/he will give a
prescription for it. That tooth grinding is because the poor little
guy is in pain, and Carafate is supposed to do a good job of coating
the ulcer and helping prevent further irritation.
Until you can get the Carafate though, Pepto is a good stand-by. Your
little guy may hate the taste, but he'll appreciate the relief.
