Yes, some intestinal illnesses can cause wasting, as can other things. We've seen it in a ferret with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and it cleared up with her when her heart was treated, nd since then we have heard of other ferrets with this pattern.
Do NOT discount the idea of a blockage since the majority of those do not show up on x-rays.
have you considered ultrasound and exploratory/corrective surgery?
