Hi,
Has Bandit ever did creatin and urea mensurement? When kidneys
failure, urea and creatinin aren't excreted and it produces GI ulcer.
We have a good result giving kale to them. You liquefy a leaf of kale with
a litlle water (just enough to liquefy it) . Filter it and give to him on an
empty stomach once a day.
Blood work shows an inflammation (ulcers) and glucose rate is low. You
have to talk with your vet to make other exams, like US, etc , to be sure
that is an insulinoma. But now you can't think in an operation to remove
the tumor because Bandit's phisical conditions are bad.
I'm a brazilian vet and comercial medicine names are different. So I can't
say anything about it.
Hope I could help,
Karin

Subject: [ferrethealth] Bandit (insulinoma/blood results) and ulcer
question

Hi,

This question is for any of the vets on the board and ferret owners who
could
shed some light on Bandits situation...or suggestions for treating an
ulcer.

*this is my second post, and would appreciate any feedback...

Bandit's getting worse, raised the pred to .75 (2x) a day, he still sleeps
all the time, constantly chomps- grinds am giving 1.00ml pepcid not
doing a
thing. He's so heavy, he can't even clean himself properly, when he
pees, I
have to clean his belly off and he always lets out a little moan when
going,,I don't know if it's when he does #1 and #2 or just pee pee.
Anyway,
he's got accumulated fat under his armpits and in his abdomen- his
cataracts
are so bad, it makes me sad when I see a cloud of film over his
eyes...even
when we take him outside he just plopps down or bobs the head
slightly and
looks a little dazed. My vet doesn't feel it's time for the Diaxide (sp)??
yet- his most recent BG was (58-60) and I would like to share his blood
values that were high or low with our vets on-line to see if I should be
concerned.

Glucose (sent out)- 35 (in house) 58-60

Total Protein - 7.1 (high)

globulin- 3.6 (high)

Calcium-9.9 (high)

HGB- 19.1 (high)

HCT- 59.3 ( high)

Neutrophil Seg- 85 (high)

Lymphocytes- 9 (low)

Monocytes- 4 (high)

Bandit is only about 7 years old.. and I want to keep him with me as
long as
I can, any suggestions to increase my little guy's quality of life, would
be
so appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Christina

*Also, Bandit is constanlty grinding his teeth or chomping I guess
would be a
better way of describing it. It seems to happen when he wakes up- I
give him
water thinking that maybe his mouth is dry, but it doesn't help. His
breath
is very fowl and I think it must be an ulcer. The vet checked his teeth
and
there okay- I put him on pepcid as the vet suggested but did not see
any
improvement what so ever, do you have any suggestions so he's not in
such
discomfort?? He's on babyfood so it's a pretty bland diet, but I don't
know
what else to do, please help.
