Subject: Ferret Age And Health Question

Hi! I am new to this group and to this site (smartgroups) so please forgive me if I am posting incorrectly here. I do have a question about my ferret.
He is about 4 or 5 years old and he is losing fur in the middle of his tail. (I know when they are about to die that is a sign)But what confuses me is that he is still very active and seems to be eating the same as usual. I am wondering if the balding is because of his shedding that usually happens in the spring. Though, we have NEVER noticed him balding during the spring before, this year he is and that is worrying us.
Should we take him to our vet or do you think he is okay?
