Sorry, I expressed that badly. Mea culpa. What I meant is that the
vet will get a more reliable blood sugar reading if the numbers are
acquired rapidly in-house (in the hospital) rather than sending the
blood out because the blood sugar readings go down over time with
them.

It IS possible to do some at home testing but may not be as reliable.
