Subject: Follow-up on Diarrhea Problem

I wanted to write with a follow up on this, and to thank everyone
that wrote me privately with suggestions.

Over the night Wednesday both girls seemed to improve, and by morning
the fevers were down some. We went to the vet Thursday evening, and
he checked them over pretty thoroughly.

I also took a number of stool samples, and fecal checks were done.
Several people had indicated they thought it might be coccidia. All
samples were clean, though. We have had coccidia here before, and my
vet is pretty good at spotting it, so I trust his findings.

Both girls still had slight fevers at the vet's, and he still feels
that this is something either bacterial or viral. He gave me more
Flagyl, since it had helped the kids who were sick earlier. However,
after we got back home, Ilsa decided to eat some kibble, and this
morning, she was actually playing a bit.

The most important information for me, though, was finding out what
represents a critical fever. My vet feels anything over 105 needs
immediate attention - either ice baths and sub-Q fluids at home, or a
trip to the emergency vet. And even with the home treatment, if the
fever continues to return, he said I should seek immediate veterinary
care.

So, apparently I did the right things. Today both girls have
slightly better looking stools, although now another one is getting
this thing. However, he is younger, and does not have either ADV or
IBD, so I will just keep an eye on him.

Thanks again to everyone for their suggestions.
