Hi,
I have a problem that I've never seen before.
My 4 year old female ferret was diagnosed with adrenal
disease about 8 months ago. Her only symptom was a
mildly swollen vulva.
She had her left gland completely excised. Her right
was completely destroyed with cryosurgery.
AFTER surgery, she began to lose her hair. She has
never regrown it - not at all. As of now, she is more
bald than furred.
The vet suggested a Lupron shot to see if symptoms
improved (she said this would indicate that there
might be some adrenal tissue left behind, but she
seriously doubts that this is the case).
It has been 3 weeks since the shot was administered
and there is no sign of any new hair growth.
Does anyone know of any illnesses - other than adrenal
- that will cause this kind of hair loss?
It should be mentioned that she shares a cage with 10
other ferrets (very big cage) and none of them have
any symptoms like this. Also, they are kept totally
indoors and always have been. Parasites are EXTREMELY
unlikely.
Please forward any responses directly to me as I have
trouble receiving posts from this list.
Thank you very much!
Kim VL
