Pred is hard on a diseased heart. Usually, unless it can't be
avoided, it is not given with heart disease. (It can be that for
some ferrets with things like insulinoma or lymphoma that giving it
can't be avoided, though it may be able to be kept to low doses with
the use of other meds.)

If the ferret is again coughing then you need to contact the treating
vet because the meds may need to be increased/adjusted, or
additional meds such as Digoxin may need to be added.

Different causes have different approaches and different cautions.
It sounds like that other ferret possibly has something which is
causing bad inflammation of the lungs so the vet is reducing that
with the steroid.
