Hi, I would be very interested in hearing what you find out...we have had three of our ferrets, two females and one male who have had adrenalectomies,
and they are part of a "tangle" as I prefer to call them, of 10...all caged together in a very large enclosure and out for periods during the day with me...as I am home more often than not...that have the same symptoms as yours. After their surgeries, little to no hair has regrown or more has been lost. You'd swear that the adrenal problem was not cured, stalled or whatever, but that has not been the case.

AND MORE: we have the "Area 51" syndrome, that no one has been able to explain...after surgery...and only on these three animals (and others of ours have had surgeries as well)post op and near or on the shaved surg field, a thin red outlined area appears several days post...looks like it was drawn on with a thin red magic marker...to delineate perhaps a surgical cutting area for example...if you need to visualize it. The area inside and out appear to be healthy and pink. Several days more and the area inside the marker starts to darken and look like ringworm (which it isn't)..then it progresses to necrotized tissue that eventually raises a surface, scabs and falls off...all the time, never leaving the still red outlined "Area 51" pen drawing. The tissue immediately outside the necrotozed border is healthy, profused and pink and unaffected in any way. Once the scab falls off (two to three weeks), and scars...no hair ever grows back there as well. No cultures for fungal or bacteria agents that we know of have tested positive. It is a true "Area 51". Ooooooooweeeeeooooo. Dr. Williams suggested a sterilization problem with the autoclave at the clinic, but no other reported cases have shown up...just ours. Gads.

Putorius, the usual suspects and welcoming 2 new ones...Bumper and Wingnut
