One of my kids had similar symptoms about 1 1/2 years ago. It came on suddenly, and because she is older, I was particularly worried, so I took her to the Emergency Vet in my area.
The diagnosis was severe inner ear infection with a perforated eardrum. She was given a shot of antibiotics, and some oral antibiotics to take at home as well. I was also instructed to rinse her ear out twice a day with saline solution, and then apply an antibiotic ointment to the ear. SHe made a full recovery, and was seen for follow-up by my regular vet. He said the cause of the infection might have been a result of earmite infestation (we found my kids also had earmites at that time).
I hope you are able to find the problem, and that your 2 girls recover also.
