It is essential that the electrolyte levels be checked when there is a bilateral removal or the remaining adrenal is atrophied. Some vets have a set schedule for such testing and some vet around here just always give Florinef early on and then test.
Those ferrets who need Florinef or Percorten thrive on it. Our 6 years old Ashling needs such medications and has needed them for about half of her life, and at 6 years of age she still grabs a TV remote which is 1/4 of her weight and not only drags it into the closet but climbs up the clothing while holding it. For a while it would land on the top shelf of the closet which is almost 8 feel up, but recently she is putting it in her favorite slepping shelf about 4 feet up rather than moving on to the clothing on the next level of clothing rod. She stills takes the tennis ball stuffed socks all the way up there when she gets them, though. Ashling gets daily Florinef and Pred. When she was younger and more active (This ferret could have been a hyperactive buccaneer.) she had her meds twice a day.
If such meds are needed but not given the result can be fatal.
