There's a chance that even with surgery, symptoms will return within a year or so. She will be taken off pred if her glucose levels return to normal.
The tumors may be tiny and seeded through out the pancreas and not visible on the surface. Even if one or more tumors can be found externally, there may be more that are not. This is why a partial pancreatectomy is often performed. It betters the odds of getting more of the tumors.
