Have these ferrets been vaccinated against canine distemper?
Unfortunately, that is among the possibilities from your description
of symptoms.

The emaciation would not be from death itself but could be from
whatever led up to death.

Whenever a ferret dies unexpectedly or of unknown causes a necropsy
with pathology should be done in case there is a problem which could
hurt others. This precaution has not only saved other ferrets but
when death has been from carbon monoxide or gas leaks it has saved
people, too, in a least 3 instances that I recall reading about over
a space of about 2 decades.

From your description you do need to immediately make an emergency
appointment and drive with her for help. Do not delay. Take books
along if need be to study there while waiting, but this ferret needs
care.
