< So they don't have to get anesthetized, if your vet is used to handling
ferrets.>

It is correct that they don't need to be anesthetized to have the microchips
put in. However, it is sometimes a matter of personal preference. All 3 of
my ferrets were knocked down but not completely under - just enough to stop
them from struggling so much when their microchips were put in. This was my
choice in all the cases as I was working for the vet at the time. My dog
was under as well when his microchip was placed, however, it was done at the
same time as his neuter.

Some previous coworkers of mine worked for a vet that owned ferrets herself
and she actually prefers to have them slightly under to microchip them after
a bad experience she had were her own ferret had to be stuck more than once
to correctly place the microchip.

So it can be matter of preference as well as skill.
