Last Friday it was so bad that we finally seeked another opinion. At this
point, Calvin was very bloated, and on 7 medications. Carafate, Clavamox,
Flagyl, Neomycin, Lomotil, Azulfidine, and Actigall. The new vet pretty much
said that he was being over medicated. That some of those drugs can cause an
upset stomach, so we don't know what the real problem is and what his body is
responding to from the medications. He advice was to stop everything
completely except the Carafate. His straining is now almost completely gone.
At night he'll have tarry, liquid stools, but during the day, small brown,
stringy stools. Calvin still won't eat a lot on his own, so I'm supplementing
with duck soup. The new vet wasn't happy about this, but with the duck soup,
I can make sure he's hydrated.
Calvin also had a blood test while we were there. Should get the results back
today.
And, his problems first appeared when we noticed signs of adrenal. Problems
actually got worse after the adrenal/insulinoma surgery.
What would cause his stools to be inconsistent like this?
Thanks,
Melissa
