Any chance of a full name for the drug? I have a feeling after a little
bit of research that it is very likely chloramphenicol palmitate - a
search of the archives for the word chloramphenicol turns up some good
hits. Looks like this drug is mostly used for proliferative colitis.
The worrisome thing is that it apparently can be nasty stuff for humans to
handle (very rare but extremely serious complication is possible with oral
exposure), so please be extra careful with it.

IF (and I repeat IF) that's the drug, the following web page gives a dose
of 25mg per pound of ferret body weight. However, since doses should
really be given by a licensed vet, I'd check with a vet before giving it.
Definitely get a 1 cc syringe so you can measure it more accurately than
you can with the dropper. You'll also need the concentration of the drug
(should be on the bottle). http://www.ferretnews.org/pcolitis.html

(it should be obvious from the above that I'm not a vet :) Does your
regular ferret vet perhaps call in to the clinic to pick up messages about
cases happening while they're gone? (some but not all vets do that - just
a thought since the prescribing vet was uncertain...)
