First I'd like to thank everyone who replied to my post. Both girls are sl=
owly improving. =

My problem is that although Buffy had a brown waxy discharge, Bianca didn't=
, there was no bad smell, no excess scratching, no rubbing or shaking of th=
e head. The first vet checked the ears and said there was no sign of redne=
ss or infection. I've put some of Buffy's ear wax under a microscope but I=
could't see any mites or eggs. The wax appeared crystaline. The second v=
et (who we were assured was knowledgable about ferrets) didn't even know th=
at ferrets can get earmites! At their last appointment she prescribed ear =
drops, (without doing a slide) - Canaural. This contains Diethanolamine Fus=
idate,Framycetin Sulphate, Nystatin and Prednisolone. Contraindications: "=
During therapy effective doses suppress the hypothalamo-pituitreal adrenal =
axis. Following cessation of treatment symptoms of adrenal insufficiency c=
an arise and this my render the animal unable to deal adequately with stres=
sful situations". Does anyone know if this is safe to use in ferrets, as it=
only specifies cats (doesn't mention kittens) and dogs.

Thanks, Carol
