Hi,
I'm a brazilian vet and it seems your friend's ferret have a calcium problem. Here we use to give calcium plus D vitamin and in a week they begin to walk. And they become completely normal in 2-3 weeks.
Good luck,
Karin

Subject: [ferrethealth] Paralyzed ferret

I know I've read on the list before about ferrets who've responded to massage, and those who use the little go-carts, and I'm hoping I can get some advice. I have a friend who has a female ferret, approx. 3 months old, that she got from a pet store. The ferret has periodically had balance problems since they've had her, but just this week has become unable to use her body. She's not really paralyzed in the true sense, because when she needs to use the litter box, her back arches and her tail goes up, so she can feel the sensation of needing to go. But she cannot stand, walk or even hold herself up long enough to eat.

She's had bloodwork and X-rays done and everything came back clean as a whistle. Has anyone else experienced this before? The vet is stumped, and my friend is afraid she's going to lose her little girl. Please help.

Thanks!
Amy
