Wouldn't a calcium problem show up in bloodwork, though? Her bloodwork was perfect.

I'm a brazilian vet and it seems your friend's ferret have a calcium problem. Here we use to give calcium plus D vitamin and in a week they begin to walk. And they become completely normal in 2-3 weeks.
