I don't know if anyone really knows for sure how much Ferretone is too much. Also, I suspect that it can vary widely based on the condition and individual, for example, we had one with IBD who simply could not tolerate it at all. Many years ago there was more worry in the ferret community about over-doing Vitamin D but I can't recall ever hearing of anyone reporting that actually happening then. In the last few years I think that I have heard of two cases in which this was suspected of happening.

Ashling likes her Florinef in Ferretone, but there has to be enough. Until last year she needed that twice a day, but she has slowed down enough that she only needs it once a day now. (This is our six year old who climbs up the closet carrying along a tv remote which is 1/4 of her weight and still has to lean for her turns when she rounds a corner at a run so you can imagine her feats when she was more active.) I just measured out what she requires and came to less than 1/2 of a measuring spoon teaspoon (which usually are smaller than eating teaspoon size with the flatware we've had). I guess that in the years when she was getting her medication twice a day she was getting maybe 1/2 to 2/3 of a teaspoonful in total daily and she thrived.

It's likely to vary some among ferrets. I do not know the warnings signs of too much Vitamin D without looking them up (or too much of the other ingredients) in members of Carnivora, but our IBD one who could not deal with it had his diarrhea worsened by it, possibly just from his inability to digest fats well enough.
