Well, my weak sick little female ferret (Ivy) has now been checked head to
toe. Boy was this one baffling. Her x-rays were fine, her blood glucose
normal. We did a cbc/profile and other than severe anemia, everything else
looked reasonable. When the Dr. did a blood smear however, we found the
culprit. The Dr. called me over to the microscope and there were little
bluish circles in Ivy's red blood cells!!! Evidently it's a parasite
Hemobartonella (I hope I haven't butchered that name too much!!). I've not
found much online thus far pertaining to ferrets, just cats. If anyone could
offer some information, websites, suggested reading etc. I would be forever
grateful!
