Just an FYI: we've had a ferret who weighed only about a pound who
was on 5 mg of Pred a day, Diazoxide is another med that is useful
for you to remember for your other ferrets, and of course, there is
surgery. The majority of ferrets are very steroid resistant in terms
of side effects but vets who don't handle a lot of ferrets do not
know this. It sounds like he perhaps had insulinoma, adrenal, and
prostate problems with dysuria secondary to the adrenal problems.
That this occurs with ferrets is also often not known by vets who
don't handle a lot of ferrets. I just sent a reply about Cocoa the
ferret to the list. That has where such info can be found in the
body of the post. Oh, and when insulinoma is advanced it can
sometimes give extra quality time to add in dietary sugar when the
meds no longer hold it; we had one little elderly girl get another 3
good months that way before something else (lymphoma) killed her.
There is a post in today from Lucie who found that adding kibble into
the chicken gravy she was providing gave control due to the starches.

Anyway, the next time you or someone else encounters this the
information shared by so many here on insulinoma may be of help. I
am sorry that this time it wasn't for Samson.
