Two of my furballs recently developed ECE, it started with vomiting once or twice over the first day, then neon green diarrhoea for the next three to four days. As expected it started to clear up and they lost their appetite. That was almost four weeks ago, and their appetite is still poor and their faeces ranges from diarrhoea to formed.
I am feeding them regularily with a mix of baby food alternated with duck soup, though occasionally they do crunch some of their usual food. They have both lost weight but at present this seems stable. Both are drinking well and remain sufficiently hydrated. I'm just really concerned the diarrhoea is ongoing and how i can manage it best so they feel well as soon as possible, they are beginning to look really fed up and miserable.
I read on the internet about using loperamide (0.1ml twice a day for two days) and have started them on that. So far so good but I was hoping for any other advice and if anyone has used loperamide for ferrets with ECE and how effective it has been in the longer term.
All help and advice greatly apprecited, mostly by the fuzzies concerned.
