Hi Anna,
Being a diabetic myself I have a glucose machine at home. And yes I use it
for my fuzzies. I hate having to check at home but it helps with the pred
dosage to know. I clip a nail tip to get the blood , the machine beeps when
there is enough on the strip to test. Doing this I was able to keep 2
ferrets alive for a very long time.I was able give the right amount of
pred. I do not recommend changing the pred dose until you talk to your vet.
I adjust my ferrets doses but I am a vet tech. If I'm not sure I do call my
vet. Also if I make any changes I call my vet.

Terri

> Can anyone tell me if they use a blood-sugar home testing kit on their
ferret? I know of these devices being used on other pets, like dogs and
cats.. but has anyone ever considered using one on their pet ferret? I was
thinking of getting one for my Insulinomic ferret and to check her blood
glucose level on a regualr basis.. I'm going to discuss this with my vet
when he's at the clinic, but just thought I'd see if anyone here has
anything to say about it. I just don't know 1) if it's possible & 2)
where/how to get blood from the ferret.. how much is needed, etc.
