Hey Hey All,
I have a ferret whose immune system is defintely compromised, she is allerg=
ic to most foods and we have gone to extensive lengths to find her stuff sh=
e can eat. All of this is in the archives under ege or RinkyDink. =
Unfortunately, RinkyDink also has adrenal, controled at the moment by melat=
onin and light therapy. Due to RinkyDink's severe case of ege and subseque=
nt damage she is not a surgical candidate, so we have been thinking of usin=
g lupron in the future when the melatonin, photo therapy cease to work.
Anything that jolts or interacts with RinkyDink's immune system has the pot=
ential to kill her. I almost lost her to a long slide downhill after a dis=
temper shot. I am very cautious about what kind of treatment she gets so h=
ence my question. =
Does lupron interact with the immune system in ANY way. I would have thoug=
ht not, but, recently had a male ferret receive a 4 month lupron inject. A=
fterwards he developed a case of demodex (sp?). Blaze is healthy except fo=
r adrenal. Surgery would be make him a bilateral with no good vet closer t=
han 3 hours away during regular hours so we do lupron. =
It is my understanding that all ferrets have demodex but it only flares up =
if the immune system has been compromised in some way. I checked with the =
local shelter mom and she has noted the same findings after either surgery =
or 4 month lupron injects.
If lupron interacts with the immune system, I would be very afraid to use i=
t as a treatment with RinkyDink.
Thanks for any info you can direct my way.
HappyTails,
Karen and the Scruff You Gang =
