BHT (in ferretone) and BHA (not in ferretone) both cause liver and kidney damage, and are both suspected cacinogens. BHA has even been listed as such by the state of california. their use and importation has been banned by many countries. if you do a simple search on the net about these preservatives, you will find more details.
