Dose anyone have any suggestions? I have a little girl who was diagnosed as
diabetic. I've been checking her BG levels and giving her insulin shots for
about six weeks. For the first five weeks we were using Insulin U, apparently a
long acting insulin. Her BG remained in the high 400's. We had a couple times
in the 300's, a couple in the 200's, and one in the 30's. We went from one unit
twice a day to four units twice a day. She had been left at the vets for the
periodic checks throughout the day three times. Just before changing the type
of insulin, we had a couple days in the 100 and 200's. Her stay at the vets
Tuesday included taking the blood several times throughout the day and sending
it off to a lab. The vet then changed us to 1 unit of Insulin L twice a day.
Apparently it's a stronger insulin? Her levels are still in the 400's. I have
noticed that after her shot she falls into a really deep sleep. She will wake
up if I make her, and even run around. She just sleeps sooo sound after these
shots. Is that normal? The Dr. and I have talked about possibly giving her
shots more often but haven't ended up there yet. What kind of experience has
anyone else had with giving insulin and the types given?
Thanks in advance for any info.
Most sincerely,
