This compilation on dysuria and the prostate
http://www.smartgroups.com/vault/ferrethealth/prostate.txt
should help you, and a search of the Complete Archives at
http://fhl.sonic-weasel.org/
would find later information as well as urine acidifier information
such as is in
http://fhl.sonic-weasel.org/browse.php?msg=SG490 ,
http://fhl.sonic-weasel.org/browse.php?msg=YG4217 ,

In your shoes I think I'd discuss Proscar/Propecia with the treating vet.

For the insulinoma: ferrets usually tolerate high levels of the Pred
but not all respond as well as they could to Prednisone. Those
individuals tend to do better on Prednisolone (skipping the liver
processing step). Diazoxide is also a good med for many ferrets with
insulinoma and can be given in combo with either.

I'm not a vet; just someone who has had ferrets in the family for 21 years.
