Agreed. Just because a bag says "ferret food" on it doesn't mean it's
good for ferrets. A number of cheap foods out there range from having
relatively poor nutritional value (8-in-1 Ultra is such a food) to being
downright dangerous (KayTee Fiesta has dried carrots that can cause
blockages). You really want to stick with a high quality ferret food.
Yes, you pay more, but your ferret will eat less of it because he/she
can get the nutrition needed from a smaller quantity. In the long run
you really won't pay much more and your ferret(s) will be healthier and
happier for it.

Agreed again, but do it gradually. A sudden change of food can lead to
stomach upset. Also, a ferret may decide it doesn't want to eat an
unfamiliar food. You may have to try a few to find out what your ferret
likes that is good for him/her.

Our vet, and at least one other that has posted here, are of the opinion
that a high quality food specifically formulated for a ferret's
nutritional needs is better than any kitten food. I stick with ferret
food. Some good ones include:

Totally Ferret
8-in-1 Ultimate (not Ultra, not available at Wal Mart)
Mazuri
Shepard & Greene
Zupreem
The Ferret Store Superior Choice

There are probably others that deserve to be on this list, but these are
the ones I am sure are decent. We feed Totally Ferret, and often mix in
some Zupreem or Mazuri. Having more than one food your ferrets like
helps in case there is a problem with a given brand.

All the best,
Caity
