Actually, the owner of the ferret I discussed was a pet store, and in the
greater scheme of things, they put a great deal of time and money into the ferret
by having treatment done at all. While I would have preferred to know what
was actually going on, I have to applaud them for having attempted to save the
ferret's life. Had the other ferrets in the store become ill, I am sure they
would have been more willing to pursue a diagnosis, but as it was, they felt
that the best thing to do from a business standpoint was to move on.
They did have the ferret tested for ADV, had x-rays and bloodwork done, and
were willing to be aggressive with treatment - but when the ferret died, they
cut their losses at that point.
