My little ferret; Lil Darlin, became ill and got a urinary tract infection. The vet said the white count was too high to count, lost some fur on both rear legs, and became very dehydrated and lost weight. The vet told me to give her the "Clavamox" (Amoxicillin Trihdrate/clavulanate Potassium), for 3 weeks.
I have done this. But now, Lil Darlin has developed a very interesting skin condition. Now normally, the skin on her rear legs is a nice healthy pink. But now, her skin, on both rear legs, both front legs, the mask area, and on her belly, are turning a weird sort of grayish/black/pink. It is completely bi symetrical. She does not seem to be in any discomfort, she plays, and she still has feeling in the skin. It does not look or smell like necrotic tissue.
The discoloration is similar to, if you had black ink come off of the news paper onto your skin and it was smeary colored. I have called my vet and I am waiting for an answer. Does the clavamox cause this? If not, any ideas on what caused the skin discoloration?
Thank you.
