I have a few ferrets who get seasonal loss of tail fur- if I see it
spread to the
flanks, rear or anywhere but just the tail I worry. Also, had a ferret
on prednisone
who was on it for 1 year, developed thinning fur and fur loss on the top
of the
head and feet, ended up adrenal for sure- just timing and coincidental
she
was on the prednisone- I have plenty more on pred over the years who
didn't get
the fur loss ( one for 3 years ). I have many with adrenal who on
surgery also had insulinomas.
Since the two are so common in older ferrets, as is prednisone for other
conditions,
it would be hard to say prednisone is anything but coincidental
medication they had been given.
Can prednisone just cause some fur loss? Maybe, but I am sure it doesn't
cause adrenal disease
where the high circulating sex hormones ( mainly estrogens) causes the
fur loss ( alopecia)

Dr. Murray made a good post explaining the reason prednisone wouldn't
cause adrenal disease-
if I can find it I will repost it, it was in response to a vet in Brazil.
