Well, it doesn't take a vet to answer that one. The answer is a "Yes, but..."

You don't say what the temperature was or how much of a change it was
from what the ferrets were used to. Those two pieces of information
really affect what the reply is.

I know people in Florida who have ferrets in temperatures that would
cause our's to suffer greatly, but the ferrets have been long used to
such temperatures.

Depending on the individual our's drag in the high 70s or in the 80s.
They just aren't used to it and it affects them badly.

Of course, being over-heated is not the only possible explanation for
what you describe. Strong exhaustion signs and drooling can have a
range of causes. Certainly, insulinoma is up there among things to
check for to be safest. Exhaustion with gasping may at times
indicate a need to check the heart. A check up is in order, and
plans for providing relief from the coming summer heat are good
things for all to make.
