Subject: vaccination after reaction

HI --
Last year one of my ferrets had a mild reaction to Fervac-D; he started
vomiting about 45 minutes after the injection. This year I asked about
premedicating with Benedryl, but my vet doesn't want to vaccinate him
at all, for fear of a stronger reaction.

This is the most sociable of my ferrets, and the one most likely to
meet other ferrets. So I would still like to keep his vaccinations
current, if it can be done safely.

What recommendations do the vets here have about using Galaxy or
Purevac after a reaction to Fervac? What are recommendations of oral
vs. injectable Benedryl for premedication? If I don't have him
vaccinated, but still bring the others to ferret fests, doesn't that
still put him at risk?

My vet is reasonably ferret-knowledgeable, but he is not an expert, and
I know there are experts within an hour or two drive. (I have been
keeping track of this in case any of my guys need something like
adrenal surgery). Should I just switch this ferret's yearly checkup to
the other vet, assuming he is willing to do the distemper vaccine? (I
guess that's really an etiquette question).

Any input would be appreciated.
