I have no medical degree and cannot confirm or deny the possibility of ferrets contracting kennel cough. I can, however, tell you that I brought home a puppy in November who suffered for 4 months with a serious case of kennel cough.
Maybe it's a coincidence, but beginning in December and through out mid January, all 31 ferrets at the shelter developed a cough.
I did NOT treat them with antibiotics, as was the protocol for the puppy. The ferrets each went through a coughing cycle for 5-7 days, some were raspy sounding, some had runny noses, then it was gone.
