Dear friends,
We're having to check BG levels and give insulin to one of our kids. Her #'s
go from high to low at times. ie: 7AM 435 - 7PM 120 (has gone down to 22
recently) We are now checking her several times a day. The Dr. told us not to give
insulin if her BG is below 150. We were giving her the isulin shot at 10AM and
PM. The other night at 10 her BG was low so we didn't give her a shot. I
checked her the next morn at 7AM. Her BG was HIGH so I dcided to give her the shot
and give it at 7AM and PM from that point on. Well, at 7PM tonight her BG was
140 so, no shot. Now, my question. If I check her tonight at say 10, and her
BG is HIGH again, should I or can I give her the shot then and again go back
to 10AM and PM? Is it OK to do this? Bounce around like that? To try and be
more clear, if this happens, she would have had her last shot at 7AM this morn,
and I'd be giving her another at 10 or so tonight, 15 hours later, then every
12 hours from that time on unless this happens again. If it is HIGH tonight I
feel like she should have the shot, but am just not sure about doing this. I
tried calling the vet and they were already gone. I'll call her tomorrow but
would appreciate input until then.
Thanks so much,
Tiffany Slinky
