Yikes! I made the mistake of picking up a 3 month supply of liquid prednisone for my ferret, Leopold, when he was diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome. It tastes terrible (I can't even stomache a whole dose of it. I've tried various things to flavor but worry about how much to cut the pred and with what that won't make him worse off health wise.
I used to have another little one ,Chico (unfortunately he passed away from insulinoma, SORELY MISSED!) whom took compounded pred but I didn't even think to get that done this time. So I'm stuck with about $50 worth of the yuckiest meds myself and Leo has ever tasted but I certainly don't want to waste it if at all possible. Anyone have any ideas?
So far I've tried bannana, molasses, corn syrup, peanut butter, chocolate syrup, corn syrup cut with a little kool aid flavoring, chocolate and peanut butter mixed together....etc.
All of these things are given in small doses, they aren't the best thing for a little guys tummy but at least he can take his med without vomiting. I'm so annoyed with myself for not taking the extra step now to get it compounded in the FIRST place.
