Our Vet took another Xray of the heart and it looked good. The blood test =
showed elevated white count, anemic, and low glucose (Vet indicated low glu=
cose may be due to test lab delays and blood settling). He was given Clava=
mox antibiotics and Prednisone due to the low glucose. The fever went away=
overnight, came back the next day and seems to be gone for good now. The =
swelling in the back paws has gone down and he walks now. The front paws a=
re still pretty swollen from IV's and bandages but have gone down as well. =
He's home now, still on antibiotics (and prednisone until a second blood t=
est details the glucose better). So the bottom line is that it looks like =
it was an infection, but we still don't know how that happened with no visi=
ble wounds. Aspiration of the paws gave small amounts of blood, no puss or=
goo. We still haven't ruled out lymphoma and liver cancer. Dr Bruce Willi=
ams also gave me a call and indicated that it sounded like infection to him=
based on the good Xrays. He advised against prednisone due to how it mess=
es with the immune system while antibiotics are trying to work, but at the =
time he was unaware of the low glucose results, which are only temporary un=
til we can assure his blood sugar is up (test showed 20 where he is typical=
ly between 80 and 100). Thanks for all the input. RT
