My suggestion would be to look at what he's been eating. Not his normal food, but treats and things he may have found. Our Woodstock (bird) eats KayTee Exact which is a cereal type of bird food with red, green, yellow pieces. Penny (ferret) sometimes finds pieces of this stuff on the floor at times and she'll eat anything. When she eats several of the red pieces, I can tell because her stool comes out red. Lots of dye in some edible things.
