Hi,
I need lots of help on recently diagnose kidney
failure in my 8yr ferret, Phoebe. I am not really sure
how advanced it is, but I think it is fairly advanced.
She enjoys chicken babyfood is that still OK? We are
giving lots of extra fluids by mouth is that just as
good as subQ? I'd rather not subject her to that if
she is willing to drink. She is not lathargic and
still eating and drinking. For example she drank apox.
18cc of water mixed with tiny bit of chicken babyfood
and slippery elm bark. Her tummy is upset(grinding
teeth). What should I use carafate? pepcid? Tagament?
I have used carafate and pepcid, I think pepcid helped
more? Other concern is excessive itchiness and
obsessive grooming. Is this part of kidney or adrenal
regrowth? She has had bilateral adrenalectomy. She is
on pet tinic .25 bid for anemia. We are winging it
with the help of lists like this due to lack of ferret
knowledgeable vets anywhere in the area which really
sucks! Quality of life is number one. She has been
through a lot in 8 years and I do not want to subject
her to anything to drastic since I know kidney failure
is terminal. Urine tests showed specific gravity was
1.014, Crea. 2.7, BUN 52.4, Phos. 11.34, Alb. 2.4.
Any help. especially from a vet is greatly
appreciated. We love Phoebe so much and want her to
be OK. We realize she most likely won't be, but we do
not want her to suffer! Please e-mail me directly
Thank You so Much,
Kelly and Sean
