I know eye injuries get mentioned now and then so I
thought I post our recent experience so it might help
someone else. Our ferret Zoe got a torn cornea about
a week ago that we think was caused by our cat (but
its hard to know for sure and she's a very active
ferret). We really didn't realize it was that bad at
first but it was obviously bothering her. So we took
to the vet expecting to get something to put in her
eye. Instead our vet found a tear in her cornea and
decided we needed to see a veterinary opthalmologist.
So a long drive later we found out that the tear went
through the cornea but her eye was still responsive.
The ophalmologist performed surgery the next morning
with one tiny little stitch. Zoe's doing really well
now and passed her one week checkup with flying colors
and seems to have some sight out of the eye. I'm sure
surgery is not appropriate in every situation but it
has worked out well for Zoe so far.
